Day Final. Left Anacortes yesterday at 0740 and started south. Followed a tug and tow almost all the way to the end of Bainbridge Island. The day was calm and seas flat and easy. About 1300, the Space Needle in Seattle popped over the hill. Stopped for the night in Port Blakely, a beautiful and comfortable cove at the south end of Bainbridge. It faces east, so the night view as the lights of downtown Seattle. Quiet night, sharing the anchorage with 3 sailboats. Up a little later than normal, as I wanted to time arrival in Tacoma for low tide and only had 25 miles to travel. Out of the harbor at 0830. Turned the corner of the point and there was Mt. Rainier welcoming us, although trying to hide in the clouds. Arrived at Foss Marina in Tacoma at 1158, secured to slip D2. The marina is in downtown Tacoma so some distance from stores, etc. All in all, we are ready to start our new adventures in the Puget Sound and glad the bash north from La Paz is completed, safe and sound.

Day Something. Still in Anacortes, until about 0800 tomorrow morn. Then underway for Foss Marina, Tacoma, WA. The repairs to the hydraulic steering ram support have been completed in a fine, non-stressful manner. Integrity Marine, Carl, did a great job, finishing the project quickly, professionally and with a reasonable cost. So nice to be working with true professionals. Tomorrow we hope to make about 65 miles to a small anchorage on Bainbridge Island, Port Blakely. Looks well protected and easy approach. Then Thursday, about another 25 miles to Foss Marina. The bash north will be truly completed. We leave Lon here in Anacortes, and thanks for all his great help on the 2 legs of this bash. Becky the Admiral, and me the deck boy, will continue tomorrow.

Interesting and calm afternoon, evening, followed by a rougher morning. We passed Lincoln City as the sun went down, surprised at the high rises on the beack and the size of the city. Passed Tillamook just before midnight. The moon popped up over the hills giving us good light for judging wave height and direction. About 0330 on Saturday (today) morning, we passed buoy "CR" for Columbia River. There was quite a few ships, but not as many as I expected. Most of the AIS signals were coming from fishing boats near by. The seas were calm all day, so I decided to stick close to shore and not run out to sea to avoid the side push of the Columbia outflow. Never felt it much, although we did slow down from about 8 knots to the low 7 knot range. Sunrise found us off Grays Harbor in building seas and a cold front. Called the Coast Guard to check on the bar conditions and they said come right on in. About 0930 crossed the bar and took the long, meandering channel down to Westport Marina. Following the buoys and waypoints is critical as it quickly shoals on each side. Got fuel, 194 gallons, for the best price yet - $2.10 per gallon. And the slip was $25.00/night. This is definitely a fishing marina. Good fish and chip dinner and the sun going down now. Next stop, as soon as we see a good weather window will be Port Angles, about 165 miles in 20 hours. Thanks for the weather reports from you folks. Just a couple more days of cooperation with the weather gods and we will be in Puget Sound.. Happy Birthday, Son Colin.

Days merging together so no idea if today is really day 14 on the voyage. But we did leave 2 weeks ago tomorrow so it does seem to compute. Anyways, we keep trucking along. Seems we are somehow beating the bad weather coming downw. Yesterday we ended up in Coos Bay, Oregon, early in the afternoon. Re-fueled, as well did 3 large fishing trawlers!. Went into check in with the harbor master, paying $20.00 USD for slip, water and electricity. Can't beat that. Up this morn early and underway at 0600, headed for Newport. Long discussion about trying to make Tillamook, but would arrive at dusk or later and that's not a harbor for newbies at night. Admiral pitched into the discussion, and if this weather holds, we're heading for Grays Harbor, Wash. About 180 miles from here. We're running at 8.5 - 9.5 knots, in calm seas, light wind wave and long swell. Wind from northwest at about 8knots. Thus comfortable. If we keep going this speed, we'll need to slow down for the night while crossing the Columbia River outflow and get in to Grays Harbor about 1430, with high tide at 1634. All looks well and all aboard are doing great. Admiral/Galley Wench has sandwiches made for lunch so will go enjoy with a cerveza. If anybody wants to look at our weather from Newport to Grays Harbor for us, it would be greatly appreciated. And send email to mvworthwaiting4@yahoo.com. We are getting emails offshore, but phone too slow to get internet and Windyty this far offshore. Sent for Grib file on Sailmail but not received yet.

We seem to have a weather window tomorrow so we'll leave San Francisco Bay and Sausaulito about 0700 in the morn and make a run for either Eureka, Cresent City or Brookings, Or. Them it seems that the weather is going to shut us down for a couple of days...but we'll have made it even further north than planned. And the Admiral suggested the overnight and this will be an interesting 30 to 36 hour trip. Destination will be determined by arrival time for tide and sundown. Windty looks really bad news for us on Saturday up and down the coast.

Day 8: Had planned to leave Morro Bay at 1600, but the yacht club had an O'Day Day Sailer regatta and wanted the dock space. Brought back really old memories as I raced a Day Sailer on Lake Michigan in the early 70s. Damm I'm old. Anyway, crew decided that we'd leave at 1100 and make a bash all the way to Sausaulito. Spent the nice morning whale watching, dozens of them; dolphin watching - hundreds and hundreds of them; and bird watching. Day was easy and passed Monterey about 2000. Spend the night in a washing machine. No wind, dark night and waves from 3 directions. Finally put becky in the bed at 2400 where she stay until we got to San Francisco at 0830. As day light came, we were able to head out to sea for a smoother ride and then turn to head directly to the SanFran buoys with the waves behind us. Arrived Buoy 2 at 0938 and under Golden Gate Bridge about 1030. Went to Clipper Cove Marina and re-fuel for 260 gallons at #2.90 per. Over Schoonmaker Marina for slip for the week. Looks like we'll be weather in here until at least Friday or Saturday. All is well and nice place to stay.

Day 7: Left the anchorage at Cojo at 0630, in deep fog with about 1/2 mile visibility. Trimaaran left just before us and we only saw him for a few minutes as we passed. Waves were choppy with a few white caps, wind about 12-15 knots. Kept heading up more north then west as we rounded Point Conception and made it around by 0730. Then headed to deeper water to get rid of the chop. Rounded Point Arguello about 0945, passing 3 oil platforms in the fog. Heard the horns, saw the ghosts, but never clearly. As the day went on, the wind went down, the fog finally lifted a bit and all was well. Off the coast near Santa Maria, had to come to all-stop for a whale crossing the bow. Gross tonnage rules. Saw well over a dozen whales during the day and hundreds of dolphins. Makes the time pass. Rounded Pt. Buchon and headed into Morro Rock, capped as usual in a heavy cloud. Easy entrance and we're tied up to the dock at Morro Bay Yacht Club at 1308. Admiral says crew is going out to dinner. Will stay here until about 1600 tomorrow then make an overnight trip to Monterey, about 115 miles.

Day 6: Anchored at Cojo, after a day of cooling weather. Days 4 and 5 were at Pac. Corintian Y.C., cleaning and relaxing. Left Channel Islands about 0800 in a low overcast. As we moved west and a little north, the fog bank rolled in, but with about 4 mile visibility. Thanks for the new AIS transponder. We could see the icons of a couple of ships in the north bound lane and several fishing and pleasure boats around. Thanks AR Marine Services at Pier 32 for getting it working properly. All day, as we made the 70+ mile trip we watched ships north and south bound. Surprisingly, to me, the oil platforms don't have AIS. They show up great on the radar with their radar transponders. A few dolphins feeding and saw one big shark. Late in the afternoon, the sun broke thru the clouds and fog and warmed us up a bit. Getting closer to Cojo, the wind start piping up and we got our first white caps. The swells started bending around Point Conception and it was a bit rolly, but nothing the Admiral and crew couldn't handle. Dropped anchor at 1545 in Anchorage Cojo, inside of a large kelp bed, in about 30' of water. Laid out 175' of chain and all is calm. Wind high as been 18mph, averaging 15. Air Temp is about 72 and water temp 64. I think we not be in Mexico southern waters any more. Tomorrow up early and start around Point Conception and Point Arguello about 0630 for the approx. 80 mile trip to Morro Bay. And what really to us is the start of the trip as it will be the furthest north Becky and I have voyaged.

Day 3: Another great day on the voyage north. Started out a little crappy, but ended great. At 0800, the King Harbor Patrol boat came alongside to take up the stern anchor. Did a great, quick lift. Then the Captain (OK, me) wasn't paying attention as Lon said we're swinging sideways to the shoal. Me says we have lots of time. Then clunk, we're aground. Luckily the Harbor Patrol came right back and pulled us off. No harm, no foul, just embarrassment which I've always learned to live with. Out of the harbor at 0830 and making 9 knots…directly West. What's going on!! To get north out of the Santa Monica Bay, one needs to go west, swing around Point Dume and Point Mugu, then head north. So we did. Off of Pt. Dume, we saw 4-5 whales, on each side of WW4, and many spouts. Lots of dolpphins today. And best, saw 2 molas - ocean sunfish, one very large. About 1400 hours, we entered Channel Islands harbor and head direct for fuel dock. 125 gallons later, we headed for Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club, where Woody of WOODY had arranged a guest slip for a couple of days. Had dinner with the Woody's and got the latest of his sea stories.

We are underway from San Diego, CA to Anacortes, WA, at trip of about 1500 nautical miles. Left Pier 32 Marina, National City (San Diego) about 0830, refueled again - 340 gallons at $2.90 per gallon. Beats $4.90 at Turtle Bay, BCS, Mexico. Was out of San Diego harbor at 1051 and moving north. The trip was easy today with light wind and northwest swell. Only took a couple of sprays over the bow. Arrived at Dana Point and anchor down at 1715. Total trip was about 68 nm. The anchorage is small so close to other boats. Most of them left already and we have a nice open anchorage and flat calm like a bathtub. Becky is aboard with Lon & Bernard and did nicely for her first day at sea after 4 months. Her hip surgery was only 5 weeks ago and she's going strong. She stayed below in the salon recliner all day and caught a couple of naps. So she is taking it easy and being very careful. Day 2: We are anchored this evening in King Harbor, Redondo Beach, Ca.
Probably taking up the same space as DESTINY did about a year ago - thanks Dawn and Mike for sharing with us. Nice safe anchorage with the bow anchor almost on the breakwater and stern anchor in the channel. The Harbor Patrol came by and re-anchored us, as they expect some wind tonight and wanted a better angle to the wind. And NO COST for the anchorage. Had an easy 50 nm trip from Dana Point, leaving at 0800 and arriving here about 1415. Calm seas and wind all the way. Becky was able to stay topside in the fly bridge all day. Lots of paddleboards and small craft in the water; fun watching the fun. Tomorrow we'll head for Channel Islands, Oxnard, CA. Have a slip reserved for 2-3 days at Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club, thanks to WOODY. Looking like Friday may be a good day to sneak around Point Conception and go as fast as possible to Morro Bay.

Another GREAT day in the world of bashing north. Perhaps even BETTER as we are safely in port in San Diego. We left Ensenada at about 0625 and started the 70 mile trip north, in cold, overcast weather. Crossed the border at 1310, and arrived at the San Diego Police/Custom dock at 1430. Waited about 1/2 hour for Custom inspection - only had to disgard fresh fruit and vegetables - which we had already done. Paid our $27.50 and away they went. Nice guys. Then started back south on the bay to Pier 32, arriving at 1645. All tied in and tuck away. At the head of the pier was the ADMIRAL, BECKY, with daughter, granddaughter and grandson - a nice welcoming comittee. STORMHAVEN is in the same marina along with a couple of vessels we know. Easy day, with lots of dolphins welcoming us. Lon & Bernard MV WORTH WAITING 4 with Becky aboard.

Another GREAT day in the world of bashing north. Almost like yesterday, but better. Our 24 hour run from Turtle Bay average 9.3k. The night was calm and quiet, and able to maintain the same speed all night. Comfortable off watch naps. Yesterday, as we approached Sacramento Reef, we could see that we'd get into San Quintin in the middle of the night and Colnett early in the morning. What the heck, let's just push on to Ensenada. As slight course course correction to the west, putting us further outside Sacramento Reef and we had a rhumb line to Punta San Tomas just before Ensenada. At 2400 we passed the Reef with its very bright flashing white light. It still looked too close, even at 10.5nm off to the east. At 0330 we passed San Quintin and 0830 passed Colnett. Several times during the day we has SSW swells pushing us up to 10.5k. As we approached Ensenada, had lots of rain cells, but only a little fresh-water wash down on WW4. Called Harbor Control at 1400 hours for harbor entrance and at 1430 was secured at Slip E-11 at Cruiseport Marina. The bash was only difficult the first day as we went around Cabo Falso; the rest an enjoyable boat ride. We'll clean up WW4 tomorrow, check out on Monday and will be in San Diego on Tuesday. Another good day in the world of bashing north. Left Turtle Bay at 0715 after a comfortable night of sleep. Talked with Mike of LA OTRA, who is delivering ENCORE north, as we departed the harbor. Exchanged comments about the trip and bashing and next ports. They plan to leave TB tomorrow. Started out with very flat seas and got up to 8.5 - 9.5 knots at 1700 RPM. About an hour out, Kenny of SONRISA, from La Cruz Marina, called. He is delivering WIND STAR to Ensenada. He was underway from TB and will try to keep in touch, but we're probably out running him. At noon, we're still making 8-8.5k at 1700 RPM. Haven't touch the throttle since leaving. Carnival Cruise ship just passed us, doing 22 knots - they did not invite us over for lunch. Still only light wind and sparse whitecaps. But the waves have changed as we are going up Cedros Channel we have had to head to Isla Benitos to keep from rocking and rolling too much. In about a half hour, I tack back east to the rhumb line and try to put the waves on our back quarter. We are now 8 miles south of Benitos, 15 nm south of the North end of Cedros and 137nm from San Quintin. If we can maintain this speed and direction we should be into San Quintin early after noon tomorrow. All is well, WW4 doing great. Lon & Bernard MV WORTH WAITING 4

Today going well - refueled by Enrique - interesting and ok. FYI - fuel here 55% more than Marina Palmira, but only game in town, so no problema. Price here, including service charge is $4.90 per gallon. Enrique used $18.50 peso/USD, so a wee bit high on that. Total refuel: 1400 liters for $33,600 pesos, including tip to main panga guy. Panga driver changed crew 3 times over the 2 days. Said his last crew member was Enrique, who cheerfully collected the fees. Also need to have 110v power for their transfer pump, as their generator no go. I had to fix his extension cord before it was usable - he had wires twisted together and bare in 3 places that kept separating. No charge for electrical repairs. I then changed primary fuel filters while crew Lon washed the salt off the fly bridge windows and did general duties. This afternoon, Galley Slave Lon is making blueberry muffins and cooking batches of chicken and bacon and other stuff for finger food as we move the next 2-3 days. Cinco de Mayo celebration on board with Captain and Crew. We still plan to leave here in the morn to move to San Quintin, doing a third overnight. Noon Report. The afternoon went well, we continued at 1700 rpm and it started getting rough about 1300. I slowed down to 1200 rpm and the ETA to Turtle Bay actually started decreasing. We arrived outside TB with 15-18k and rocking-rolly into the harbor. Anchor down at 1520, about 2 hours ahead of schedule. 2 other power boats and 2 sailboats at anchor. Enrique Fuel already came by to sell fuel - $4.90 per gallon, but panga crew would not give me total cost for 1,000 lites. I expect about 22,000 pesos - but it's the only game in town. In the morning, we'll do some minor maintenance, change fuel filters, re-fuel, wash off some salt and so ashore for the gringo holiday, Cinco de Mayo. We plan to leave here and move to San Quintin, doing a third overnight. Then to Colnett, next day to Ensenada and finally to San Diego, hopefully by Wednesday or Thursday. Noon Report. This is powerboat weather - no wind, long swell from the northwest, with local wave to keep things interesting - a slap now and then.
We are currently making 8.5 - 9k at 1700 rpm. Last night was cold, but no wind or whitecaps, motored about 6 k all night. 24 hour run was 164nm.
Day break was about 0600 and enough light by 0630 to slowly edge up the RPMs and get to Turtle Bay today before dark. As of now, GPS say we'll be in TB about 1800 which is good. Air temp 78, water temp 59 - getting cold. Will rest tonight, refuel tomorrow and change fuel filters - lots of sludge in Lucille's filter (port engine), so do preventive maintenance. Then weather permitting, will head for San Quintin on Frida, another overnight of under 200 miles. Was greeted at day light with a very large pod of the very small dolphin - largest pod i've seen in Mexico. About 2 hours later, another pod came by but didn't stop to talk. Noon Report. Comfortably heading to Turtle Bay. Wind from NW about 12-15k with light whitecaps. Seas of course from NW and confused with long sweell from NV and wind wave from North and local wind waves from NW to East. WW4 making about 6.5 to 7k, rides up on wave and down, and once in a while bringing some sea water aboard. Especially when Captain isn't paying attention and She reminds him who is in charge. Past about a dozen long line buoys so far - large, 5 gallon size plasic jugs. Looks like 4 or 5 pangas to the west of us, probably fishing the lines. ARRENA left B. Maria with us. Another sail boat, INTREPID, came in during the nigh. Checked in on Sonrisa Net this morning and got Gary's weather, Could not hear Amigo net. Weather reports from SolmateStan, NOAA and Gary are all pretty much in line with experience. At Noon, we are 202 miles from Turtle Bay on course of 312. Should be in about 36 hours from now. A lot nicer day today - power boating as it should be. Wind went down early and stayed between 12-15k until we enter Bahia Santa Maria. Then it piped up to 20 and gust to 25 as it comes down the large hill (small mountain) at the north side of the bay. Arrived after dodging many lobster pots, and welcomed by 2 dolphins and a turtle. Anchored in 25' of water at 1500 hours, with 175' chain. 3 other boats in anchorage. Talked with ARRENA who is sailing back to British Columbia, Canada, by way of Hawaii, leaving in the morning. Lon and I finished some chores, washed the salt off the fly bridge windows, pick up items from many decks and re-stowed. Lon started making dinner. Then I started the water maker, transferred fuel from spare tanks to tanks 1 and 2 - both had used about 200 liters or 400 liters total, near 100 gallons in the trip. Did 147nm in 24 hours and made the 206.1 nm trip in 33.5 hours; averaging 6.1 mph. A little slower than usual from the rough weather. Air temp is 72F, water 64F, no clouds. Will stick our nose out in the morning about 0700 and determine if we can go to the next stop - either bash all the way to Turtle Bay, about 250 miles and 30 hours; or San Juanico - about a 110nm and 12+ hours. Long wet nite, but the morning is looking great. We are about 50 miles SE of Bahia Maria. Should be in before 1700. The night continued to be rough, taking water over the bow. Was going at 1200 rpm making 4-4.5k all night. I'd drop off to the north for a while and it would settle down. a half hour later, back to water over the bow. return some to the west and it would settle down again. So a large S carved in the sea during the night. The moon came up about 0330 and could see better, able to get closer to the rhumb line. Daybreak found a very confused sea, but no whitecaps and wind down to 12-15K. Much better. Now doing about 7k. We are off the entrance to Mag Bay, but continuing on to Maria. No problems on WW4 exceot items that felt they'd be more comfortable on the salon or galley floor. All of Becky's cook books and cooking gear came off the v-berth shelfs to lie qietly on Lon's bunk. Air temp is 69F, water 64F, no clounds, course 280 at 7k. Csn't get either the Sonria or Amigo nets, but did check in last night with the PacSea Mariners net on 14300. Hmmm, We are still on THE BASH for sure. It's been rough all day, wind seldom under 20k, usually about 25. We in toward shore looking for calmer water - big mistake, got rought. then we had to really go straight into the waves to get back to the rhumb line. Lots of pounding, but WW4 is doing great and crew is hanging in there. Should be into B. Maria about 1800 tomorrow; we're just over 100 miles south now. Did 85 miles in 12 hours, but now slowed down to 5-6 k for the night. Lon & Bernard MV WORTH WAITING 4

We are on THE BASH for sure. Left del Cabo at 0700 and around Lands End about 0900. About 0930 the wind shifted and waves started up. By 1000 we were in the thick of things with white water over the bimini, and taking lots of water over the bow on every wave. We had slowed down from 1800 to 1300 and was still making 4-5 knots, straight in to waves. Wind got has high as 25 to high 20s. Good thing we had on our "big boy britches". No harm, no fouls. By 1130 waves were way down and wind in low 20s. I think this pounding will keep up all day, but WW4 handling it well. A few items have gone walkabout, but staying there till we get in. Now about 150 miles south of Capo San Lorenzo/Bahia Maria, our first destination anchorage. No Becky, just Lon & Bernard MV WORTH WAITING 4

We are underway to San Diego. And the wonderful world of electronics won again, as last night's Farkwar report apparently did not go out on SailMail. We did get to Muertos and spent a comfortable night. Got up early this morn and underway at 0630. Easy passage until just after noon when wind came up from the northeast about 12-15 k and waves turned to behind us. By 1400 we were surfing down the front of waves at 10k and up to 12.6k. Just as I felt we were getting overpowered, the wind shifted again and we slow and surfed back down in the 9s and 10s. Entrance into San Jose del Cabo was easy and secured to the slip at 1600. Will now check weather updates and decided how long we will wait here. Refuel again before leaving. No Becky, just Lon & Bernard MV WORTH WAITING 4

Very comfortable night in Muertos. Got up at 0545, breakfast and underway before 0700. Starting up Cerravalo Channel, we got the most wind of the entire trip – about 18 to 20 knots. It soon died down. As we entered San Lorenzo Channel, the passage into La Paz, we got up to 15 knots and white caps. Spoke to Julie on SV VOYAGER, for a little underway gam session. Called for help with the dock lines and PJ of GOD’S WAY answered that they be dockside to assist. Had a nice welcoming group of Don on STORM HAVEN, Bob of AMIGA, and Art and PJ of GOD’S WAY. Hooked up electricity, water and THE ETHERNET cable and a 110v fan. Then crashed. All in All, a very easy trip with no excitement – just the way we like it. We are anchored at Bahia de Los Muertos, after an easy 320 miles plus trip in 36.3 hours. The weather could not have been better. Left Punta Mita at 0500 on Friday morning, putting us beyond the Tres Marias islands before dark. As we have to stay 20 miles off the island, and expected the worst of the weather at the islands we wanted to pass them as quickly as possible.. Instead, it was calm all the way across. We slowed down at dark to about 7.5-8 knots until dawn. Saw several seiners all lit up, and they stay far away. Except for one at dawn that crossed our bow, kept turning with us as I turned. Finally, I slowed down and he cross in front by less than a 1/2 mile. Lit up like a holiday tree too. Again very little sea life on the trip. Dawn found us 150 miles from Muertos, kicked up the rpms for 9 knots. Got in at 1736, and only 1 other boat in the anchorage. Tomorrow will get up early and move on up to La Paz for the completion of the crossing.

And lots of pangas running around, creating their wonderful wake, rocking WW4 even more. We plan to leave here before 0700 in the morning at start our 350 mile passage to La Paz. The only 2 day weather windows we have are Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday. A huge norther is coming down from California and the forecast is for high winds and waves starting Monday and worse on Tuesday. Then at least a week before the next break. We've had a good shake-down cruise so far - I threw the basting brush over the side (accident, trust me!), turn the water maker valve the wrong direction and filled the bilge with 30 gallons of fresh water (also accident, trust me!) and a small mishap with Becky's freezer, needed to move it to the saloon and use the 110v outlet instead of 12v. The course change puts us south of the Marias Is. with plenty of clearance. The following sea has been a challenge - we cork screw up a wave and surf down the next, unscrewing the cork.
