Hooked a fish coming in the pass which was quickly consumed by the black tip reef shark trailing the boat. Dropped the hook in 35ft of crystal clear water over a perfectly sandy bottom. Masked and Red Footed Boobies nesting in the thousands on the small sandy atolls lining the reef. Tiger sharks have also been spotted by our buddy boats in the anchorage if you feed them some fish guts… over 7 years  agoShow

Layered up in our foulies with enough Gore-Tex and fleece for an arctic expedition. As of noon on the start of day 9 seas have subsided enough to fire up the iron jib and start motor sailing to Opua. Spent the evening in sustained 30kt winds (gusts to 35) under staysail and triple reefed main, making as many miles south while we had the NW winds before the cold front. Early morning brought rain, the trailing edge of the cold front with final gusts to 45kts before a dramatic wind shift to due S and the most confused sloppy seas.
