9º 36.588' N79º 14.388' WCeilydhArrived in Portobello after a motorsail from San Blas. Started the day off by running aground. We saw a cayuca under sail (most use engines now) and I wanted a few photos. They were ghosting over some sand flats so we nudged toward them for a better shot... Happily we only went up with the back of one hull. After driving off didn't work, Ev stood in the water and pushed us off to counteract the prop wash. That's what we get for getting underway before 10am. over 7 years  agoShow

9º 32.73' N78º 53.988' WCeilydhMoved to the Lemmons for jumping to Portobello in the morning. More crowded and not as pretty as the Holandes--but it has a stronger cell signal so the cruising boats congregate here. Had hoped to encounter Lisa the mola maker but Venancio Restrepo stopped by instead. His molas are spectacular and the best quality we've seen if you like the traditional geometric styles with abstract designs and intricate needle work--but his $50-$60 molas are similar in quality to the traditional molas we found in the Holandes for $30-$40. Has a gorgeous selection though and can tell you what all the symbols mean in English.
In Oct 2016 prices were: $10 to anchor in the Holandes (not sure for how long but it seemed a one-time fee and we got a receipt), $4 a pound for lobster--though the price kept dropping each time we bought. Our last lobsters were big ones and $4 each. $2.50 a pound for fresh conch meat, $2 a pound for crab, almost nothing for fish... The veggie boat sold mixed veggies (broccoli, tomatoes, avocado, eggplant etc) for a flat rate of $1 a pound. Cold water/juice/pop was appreciated by everyone who stopped by.

We are sailing under spinnaker again. Had a major bath this morning, enough for us all to shower in the rain. Once again, left the spinnaker up until the boat was doing 12.6 knots and bows were threatening to become airborne. Very hard to get the snuffer down when the chute is wet, even when we blew the guy.

The CAPE (convection index) I have been getting shows moderate convection for next few days, along with all these rain clouds.
