17º 38.148' N | 101º 33.258' W | Ceilydh | Easy motoring to Z-town. We've done the most motoring since Indonesia--but there's lots of sea life to keep us occupied. Stopping to let some stronger head winds pass us by--plan to be here until Monday morning. Then just 350 mile to go to PV! | over 7 years ago | Show |
16º 4.788' N | 98º 12.762' W | Ceilydh | After an 11 hour fuel stop/lunch stop/layover in Puerto Escondido we are underway again to Zihautenajo. All is well. | over 7 years ago | Show |
15º 51.39' N | 97º 3.852' W | Ceilydh | Adverse wind and current slowed our progress so stopping in Puerto Escondido for fuel. After motoring around we found the 40-50' patch and got a good set. Plan to head out after the evening breeze eases. | over 7 years ago | Show |
15º 38.262' N | 96º 3.588' W | Ceilydh | Having crossed the dreaded Gulf of Tehuantepec without incident, and enough wind to sail a good part of it, we are skipping Hualtulco and heading straight for Zihautenajo. | over 7 years ago | Show |

Have been fishing to no avail but saw two huge wahoo leaping--which made us grateful we haven't caught *them*! Motoring after a nice sail. Super pleasant conditions. | over 7 years ago | Show |
12º 42.12' N | 89º 11.55' W | Ceilydh | Sailing and motoring along. The dreaded Gulf of Papagayo wasn't very dreadful. Nice breeze on the beam for 18 hours then it lightened up. | over 7 years ago | Show |
12º 36.21' N | 88º 57.342' W | Ceilydh | Nice sailing in light papagayo winds on the beam through the night. Sad to bypass Nicaragua but looking forward to a week of marina life in Chiapas. 8º 24.708' N | 83º 34.392' W | Ceilydh | After a very quick overnight stay in Golfito we are checked out and heading for northern Costa Rica. Due to arrive Monday p.m.

9º 36.588' N | 79º 14.388' W | Ceilydh | Arrived in Portobello after a motorsail from San Blas. Started the day off by running aground. We saw a cayuca under sail (most use engines now) and I wanted a few photos. They were ghosting over some sand flats so we nudged toward them for a better shot... Happily we only went up with the back of one hull. After driving off didn't work, Ev stood in the water and pushed us off to counteract the prop wash. That's what we get for getting underway before 10am. | over 7 years ago | Show |
9º 32.73' N | 78º 53.988' W | Ceilydh | Moved to the Lemmons for jumping to Portobello in the morning. More crowded and not as pretty as the Holandes--but it has a stronger cell signal so the cruising boats congregate here. Had hoped to encounter Lisa the mola maker but Venancio Restrepo stopped by instead. His molas are spectacular and the best quality we've seen if you like the traditional geometric styles with abstract designs and intricate needle work--but his $50-$60 molas are similar in quality to the traditional molas we found in the Holandes for $30-$40. Has a gorgeous selection though and can tell you what all the symbols mean in English.
In Oct 2016 prices were: $10 to anchor in the Holandes (not sure for how long but it seemed a one-time fee and we got a receipt), $4 a pound for lobster--though the price kept dropping each time we bought. Our last lobsters were big ones and $4 each. $2.50 a pound for fresh conch meat, $2 a pound for crab, almost nothing for fish... The veggie boat sold mixed veggies (broccoli, tomatoes, avocado, eggplant etc) for a flat rate of $1 a pound. Cold water/juice/pop was appreciated by everyone who stopped by. | over 7 years ago | Show |
9º 34.572' N | 78º 38.862' W | Ceilydh | Gonna go out on a limb and say we can prove the world is round... Revisiting San Blas 19-years later and crossing the north eastward wake of little Ceilydh. Between the two boats we've now gone around the world :) Heading for 'swimming pool anchorage off of BBQ islnad' I'm pretty sure the last time we were here the anchorages didn't have names, or a half-dozen boats in them. | over 7 years ago | Show |

11º 18.372' N | 75º 4.692' W | Ceilydh | Encountered some of the weed and logs of Barranquilla River--so headed out a bit further. Back in blue water with less current but still a knot against. In in the morning. Lots of cloud around--will have to see what the night brings after last night's squalls. | over 7 years ago | Show |
12º 19.68' N | 72º 44.292' W | Ceilydh | More dolphins--this time a pod of white-sided males. All big a scarred. No much wind--motor sailing in 5-8 knots from astern. | over 7 years ago | Show |
12º 36.66' N | 72º 9.018' W | Ceilydh | Nice daytime spinnaker run. Dropped it for the night with squalls in the distance. Making about 5 knots wing-on-wing. More dolphins through the day. | over 7 years ago | Show |
12º 39.27' N | 70º 42.75' W | Ceilydh | Had a nice dolphin and whale encounter when leaving Curacao. Need to look up the whales--small and black with blunt noses--but much bigger than Atlantic spotted dolphins. Slow night with winds from astern <8 knots. Sloppy seas but nice and small. | over 7 years ago | Show |
12º 3.66' N | 68º 52.44' W | Ceilydh | Underway to Cartegena, Columbia. The 460 mile trip should take three days. | over 7 years ago | Show |

7º 47.268' N | 56º 33.06' W | Ceilydh | After a slowish day motoring we are ssiling again. The wind is making us sail close hauled, odd for these waters, but we are making good time and the seas aren't too bad.

5º 47.418' N | 52º 41.712' W | Ceilydh | Last 24 hours of the passage. Motor sailing in light winds but Crystal Blues is in a 24 mile wide 30 knot squall--so we'll take this. | almost 8 years ago | Show |
4º 46.428' N | 50º 24.822' W | Ceilydh | Flying along at 8.5 knots--wind forward of the beam and seas a bit lumpy because of wind vs current. Almost there! | almost 8 years ago | Show |
2º 2.232' N | 46º 24.108' W | Ceilydh | Some bastard fish just took my lucky cedar plug. But I guess that tells us there are fish out there... Ev saw tuna yesterday. We have small squalls around us but reasonable sea conditions-- making 6.5-7.5 in a come and go current between 1-2 knots. The water may be slightly greener off of the Amazon (how cool is that to say?) but it's hard to tell in the mixed overcast. Lots of rainbows around though. | almost 8 years ago | Show |

0º 53.208' S | 37º 6.018' W | Ceilydh | Not much wind today, so we have been sailing at 4.5-5.5 knots. Except right now where we have rainy squalls all around us and we're going ~7. Otherwise we're all good. | almost 8 years ago | Show |
1º 38.67' S | 35º 7.11' W | Ceilydh | Halfway Day! Celebrated with a new episode of Game of Thrones, crepes with berries and chocolate mousse and pizza. Pleasant sailing and no signs of squalls. | almost 8 years ago | Show |

At 12/06/2016 6:25 PM (utc) our position was 02°30.06'S 033°01.59'W We are sailing under spinnaker again. Had a major bath this morning, enough for us all to shower in the rain. Once again, left the spinnaker up until the boat was doing 12.6 knots and bows were threatening to become airborne. Very hard to get the snuffer down when the chute is wet, even when we blew the guy. The CAPE (convection index) I have been getting shows moderate convection for next few days, along with all these rain clouds. Dinner tonight is something with chick peas I believe. Ev | almost 8 years ago | Show |
2º 44.07' S | 32º 16.11' W | Ceilydh | Continuing light winds from astern--but Crystal Blues who are 60 miles astern have 15 knots from ahead--so keeping an eye out for a wind change. Our little bird is still with us--but his leg is badly injured. | almost 8 years ago | Show |
3º 18.708' S | 30º 7.2' W | Ceilydh | Broke our no spinnaker on iffy nights rule because despite the gribs--the sky looked clear. So of course got the squall--and whilst going 12 knots and trying to decide how long the squall might last the AIS alarm went off with a ship also going 12 knots coming at us and our closest point of contact being .01 nm... Meanwhile we had an injured Sooty Tern on the roof that Charlie wanted to visit. So he kept sneaking out the door to get on the roof, while we were dousing the spinnaker, and tracking the ship, and doing 12 knots... Still have the cat. Sadly the ST flew away before we could cut the longline net off its feet. Slow going this am--lots of convection around. | almost 8 years ago | Show |
