24º 5.148' N109º 49.8' WAgave AzulAgave Azul said adios to Mexico's west coast Thursday morning. We had an OK passage from Mazatlan to Muertos, choppy seas and wet for the first half and mellow for the second. I say wet because the two forward hatches were leaking. After arriving in Muertos we removed as much of the bedding as possible without removing the hatches, and added a bead of silicon around both hatches as a temporary fix. Overnight reminded us we were back in the vicinity of La Paz, when the Corumuel winds picked up to the mid 20's. It's still blowing this morning and we're now in the Cerralvo channel headed to Caleta Partida. Then San Evaristo, Agua Verde and Puerto Escondido. Fair winds to our amigos doing the Puddle Jump! about 7 years  agoShow

23º 16.14' N106º 27.852' WAgave AzulWe're back in Mazatlan, after the easiest passage ever from La Cruz. The GRIBs are never accurate for an entire passage, but this time they were. Light to moderate wind, pretty calm seas and a half moon for most of the night - couldn't ask for more. Zero visibility in the fog as we approached Mazatlan, however, was a bit challenging given the commercial traffic heading into the port. It's almost noon and the fog is gone ... time for the pool and a pina colada and a nap! about 7 years  agoShow

19º 17.568' N104º 49.71' WAgave AzulWe wanted to spend more time at anchor this season so we've been in the beautiful Barra / Tenacatita area for 8 weeks! We've enjoyed our dinghy beach landings, bocce ball and Mexican Train tournaments and mayor's raft ups in Tenacatita and great tacos in Barra as well as daily visits from the French Baker in the marina. We have a weather window tomorrow so we're heading north again to La Cruz. Only one marlin and one good dorado this season ... we'll try to remedy that tomorrow and Friday on our way north. 25º 59.52' N111º 6.63' WAgave AzulWe enjoyed our stay in Santa Rosalia. The small Fonatur marina was a good home for 5 days including waiting out a 2 day blow with 30 knots in the marina! We visited our favorite taco stand (Pichico Tacos de Pescado) a few times, found a restaurant serving carnitas & pozole, but we never found the famous hot dogs wrapped with bacon ... bummer, maybe next time.

We decided to head south rather than continuing the 125 miles north to Bahia Los Angeles. We stopped for a couple days each in Punta Chivato, San Juanico and Isla Coronados. We're now in Bahia Salinas. We'll have light south westerlies for the next couple days, so we should be good to stay here for a while.

Bob & Sherry, Kenny & Betsy ... we enjoyed your reports on your Panama Canal adventures. Enjoy the Carribean!

27º 20.25' N112º 15.78' WAgave AzulWe're at the marina in Santa Rosalia, sitting out a blow before we resume our trip north to Bahia Los Angeles ... maybe. We're getting 25 knots inside the protected marina which has a tall breakwater. We wouldn't want to be outside today! At least two more days in Santa Rosalia! Robin & Kathryn about 8 years  agoShow

26º 45.372' N111º 53.538' WAgave AzulWe had a smooth motorsail today, a fairly long 60 mile trip from San Juanico to Bahia Concepcion. We're anchored in Posada Concepcion with our friends on Shindig & Elegante. We've been pushing north for several days, so we'll relax a bit before continuing further north into the Sea of Cortez. We've had great weather for a week & hope it continues!

24º 54.612' N110º 42.33' WAgave AzulWe had our new stern rail installed on Monday & Tuesday - I'm always amazed how the stainless steel guys do their magic. It's hard to tell there was ever any damage.

We departed Marina Palmira early Wednesday and headed up to Caleta Partida in calm conditions. We started out for Isla San Francisco early Thursday, but turned back after about an hour with 16-18 on the nose and short choppy waves. The bow went underwater every 5th wave or so and we just didn't want to do that for 3 more hours.

The weather was calmer on Friday, so we're in San Evaristo now. Nice calm winds overnight gave us a good rest. We'll stay here for a couple days ... looking forward to a cervesa some fish at the restaurant this afternoon.

24º 10.83' N110º 18.258' WAgave AzulWe didn't plan to stop in La Paz, but wanted to head directly to Espiritu Santo on our way north into the Sea of Cortez. However, after the Banderas Bay Regatta, the boat that won our division came buy to give us a bottle of champagne. Nice gesture, but unfortunately he hit Agave Azul. So we're back in La Paz. Our stern rail was cut away on Monday and Sergio is building us a new one! We thought we might be able to head north this weekend, but with the Semana Santa holiday, Sergio's workers are on a shortened work schedule. Hopefully we'll resume our trip early next week! Always nice to be back in La Paz, though. Robin & Kathryn about 8 years  agoShow

21º 50.718' N105º 52.668' WAgave AzulWe arrived at Isla Isabel mid-afternoon today. Kathryn wanted to stop here for 3 years and we finally did today. The conditions are very light, almost flat seas all the way from Chacala. And much to our surprise and delight, the anchorage was, and still is, empty! So we took our time to find a good spot in sand and set the hook well. We're a bit close to the Isleo Mona Menor rock tower(about a boat length), but the condition are very light, so we should be good. After a snorkel, as we were having our obligatory margarita in the cockpit, 3 whales cruised by a couple hundred yards away and waved their tails before the dove. We're really glad we stopped. We'll hike the island tomorrow before an early evening departure to Muertos. The conditions are right with moderate winds out of the southwest ... good fortune for this passage. 19º 17.952' N104º 50.112' WAgave AzulWe're in back in Tenacatita, after a brief stop in Barra de Navidad to pickup and install a new Inverter/Charger. The good news is that it works! We're waiting for a window to head back to Banderas Bay. We'd like to stay here for a week or so. over 8 years  agoShow

19º 17.982' N104º 50.13' WAgave AzulHola,

We're back in Tenacatita. Kathryn's sister & her husband arrived on the 30th in Barra de Navidad, we had a nice New Year's dinner at the Grand Bay Hotel, & enjoyed the pools and Pina Coladas. I spent the better part of 2 days finding a competent electrician and troubleshooting why our Inverter wasn't working. I got to know the tech support guy at Magnum Energy real well. But on Monday I'll order a new one, the electrician's amigo in Tijuana will drive to San Diego to pick it up and ship it to my electrician. Ah, the joys of boat projects, but I'm learning a lot about how electrical gizmos work! Feliz Anos ... Robin & Kathryn

19º 11.712' N104º 40.932' WAgave AzulWe made the big 16 mile jump from Tenacatita to Barra de Navidad. The highlight of the trip was sailing past the wreck of the 730' bulk carrier Los Llanitos. Los Llanitos was the last ship to depart Manzanillo when Hurricane Patricia arrived at the end of October. The port captain made all the ships leave to prevent damage to the port. All the other boats made it. over 8 years  agoShow

19º 35.052' N105º 7.8' WAgave AzulHola,

Kathryn & I and my son, Mark, had a sporty sail from La Cruz to Chamela. We originally intended to stop in Yelapa, but when we sailed by there, the NW winds kept us, and all other boats, away. So we continued on to Ipala, after the sporty part of the trip around Cabo Corrientes. The anchorage was empty so we had no problem finding a good spot away from the rocks. It was calm all night. Yesterday's sail from Ipala to Chemala was smooth all the way. We didn't catch any Dorado, however, since the runoff from last Friday/Saturday's heavy rains pushed way offshore.

20º 44.892' N105º 22.758' WAgave AzulWe had a great sail from Mazatlan to Chacala. The weather experts on the Mazatlan cruiser's net said not to depart because the norther would make it too rough. The GRIBs said the wind and waves would be mellow. What to do ... stay or leave? We decided to trust the GRIBs and they were right on.

Last year we arrived at Chacala at 7am and the swell was nasty. We dropped the hook, but pulled it up right away and headed for Banderas Bay. This year Chacala was as we remembered it ... a beautiful spot with mild winds and no swell. Breakfast at Choc Mool, paddleboarding (Kathryn) and fishing (Robin).

We departed a bit late this morning, but the weather was great and seas were calm. After avoiding the first couple long lines the fishing poles came out. We caught two beautiful Dorado. Well, we took too many photos of the first one and he decided to spit the hook out at us because we were too slow. But we were able to land the second one and we have lots of fresh fish in the freezer.

Good to be back in Banderas Bay!

23º 15.822' N106º 27.762' WAgave AzulWe waited out 2 northers at anchor at Caleta Partida and San Evaristo. When the 3rd norther was forecast, we used the break between blows to cross to Mazatlan. The trip was a bit sporty at first with sloppy seas, but things smoothed out as the trip progressed. We're in a good slip at Marina El Cid, looking forward to some time here in Mazatlan.

I haven't been able to update my location correctly, so the map may show us in the Los Candeleros anchorage in the Sea.

25º 43.422' N111º 14.292' WAgave AzulWe left Mazatlan a couple weeks ago & have been working our north in the Sea of Cortez. We're anchored at Los Candeleros for a couple days & tomorrow we'll make our first visit to Puerto Escondito for a reunion with Shindig, Elegante & Pangea (also at Candeleros). 23º 16.128' N106º 27.894' WAgave AzulEasy passage from La Cruz to El Cid marina in Mazatlan. Moderate seas & wind all the way. Here for a few weeks for a bottom painting & Kathryn is flying north for family visits. When she returns we'll head straight for the Sea of Cortez.about 9 years  agoShow

19º 11.7' N104º 40.896' WAgave AzulNice calm motoring from Zihuatanejo to Bahia Santiago & 2 days later to Barra de Navidad. We topped off all our fuel tanks which will be good for the test of the season. We're off to Chamela on Tuesday. about 9 years  agoShow

17º 38.082' N101º 33.24' WAgave AzulWe had a great sail from Manzanillo with calm seas & enough wind to sail half the trip. Then I got a belated birthday present, a large pod of feeding dolphins sharing the feed with yellowfin tuna. A 100 pound yellowfin decided to take my lure.
