18º 22.728' N61º 22.584' WGambitThe bloody, full blue moon wasn’t good news for the big Dorado and the good sized Wahoo, but it was pretty!

18º 10.734' N55º 46.614' WGambitThe wind and sea have abated somewhat. Feast or famine.

18º 28.086' N52º 57.252' WGambitCurrently rocking and rolling our way to Tortola with an angry sea on the starboard quarter. Wind is fresh from the ENE making life on board quite uncomfortable.

18º 33.798' N50º 14.076' WGambitNot much wind yesterday, but the spectacular hour long show by a pair of Bryde’s Whales made up for it!

18º 36.522' N47º 57.594' WGambitLess than 1000 miles to go. All’s well on board the good ship Gambit. Now about that wind we were promised......

18º 39.228' N45º 40.776' WGambitQuicker sailing on a hazy day. We’ll cross the 1000 miles to go mark this afternoon. Haven’t seen a soul out here for over a week. Just one small black bird flitting across the waves. Moving the clocks back to UTC -3 today.

18º 41.754' N43º 0.816' WGambitSlow but steady progress in the right direction. The weather forecast promises to speed things up a bit from here on to the finish line. Here’s hoping it’s right!

18º 53.772' N40º 38.25' WGambitYesterday was a frenetic day of activity for the Captain. Suspicions are that his favorite series has reached an end. Boat was washed from end to end. Fishing rigs had alarms devised and fitted. There was no stopping him! A 300ltr/hour watermaker and an 11,5Kw generator opens up all sorts of possibilities.

19º 44.07' N34º 8.952' WGambitIt was too early to predict good wind! Our slowest day yet this trip. Even the scrabble went on for hours! Good to see the Southern Cross on the horizon early this morning.

19º 8.802' N36º 19.2' WGambitVery slow day yesterday. No fish even! There was some decent sunshine though. It’s too early to say, but it looks as if today holds a bit more wind from a slightly better direction. Currently 20 knots from the ESE..

19º 43.806' N34º 49.452' WGambitLots of flying fish, the daily dolphin show and another dorado. Life is simple, if a little slow.

20º 32.22' N31º 47.496' WGambitIt’s a month since we left Trapani. A very red dawn this morning. We’re definitely in the tropics now as the rain squalls march past, or over, us at regular intervals.

21º 29.646' N29º 33.594' WGambitCaught our first fish yesterday. A medium sized Dorado. One week at sea from Lanzarote, probably two more weeks to go.

22º 44.562' N27º 34.86' WGambitWe’ve slowed down in lighter winds. Keeping our course SW’ish, looking for warmth and trade winds!

23º 47.544' N25º 24.462' WGambitKind of remote at the moment. The only cities I can find on the same longitude as us are Praia in the Cape Verde Islands to the south and Ittoqqortoormiit to the north. The ocean is also around 5000m deep here. All good on board

24º 38.19' N22º 38.208' WGambitToo fast to catch fish. But who’s complaining?
about 6 years  agoShow

25º 41.838' N20º 7.782' WGambitGood, robust conditions. Wind from the ENE, 18-25 knots. Big swell from roughly the same direction. All makes for noisy but productive sailing.

26º 42.084' N17º 27.72' WGambitNever underestimate the effect of Islands that have 3717m peaks! Another slow night in shadowland. Currently ambling along in 12 knots Easterly. Not that we’re complaining.

27º 38.712' N14º 57.336' WGambitAfter a slow and somewhat frustrating night, it looks as if we are clear of the windshadows caused by the high islands around here. Boatspeed a more respectable 7,5 knots @245°T

28º 56.34' N13º 33.816' WGambitWell, Monday became Friday as mañana met island time! Just departed Arrecife after a pleasant stay. Aiming at Virgin Gorda. Shouldn’t be more than a couple of weeks!

28º 57.762' N13º 32.4' WGambitA tale of two extremes! We got a solid beating by the sea state whipped up by the Westerly winds. Bailed out of plan A and into Arrecife, Lanzarote. Probably here until Monday.

32º 55.056' N10º 41.694' WGambitMotor sailing SW with a 10 knot NE behind us. We need to make an average speed in the mid 7’s to minimize the effects of the incoming depression.

36º 8.928' N5º 21.402' WGambitStopped in at Gibraltar and topped up the fuel tanks. The Mediterranean is living up to its reputation of either having no wind, or too much wind and any wind that does blow, is from dead ahead! Next planned stop, Las Palmas, Canary Islands.

36º 44.718' N3º 1.146' WGambitThe Westerly got the better of us, mainly by kicking up a horrific sea! Bailed out to a small town called Adra between Almeria and Motril. We’ll see out the New Year here in the company of an American Yacht, Catch 22.

35º 43.08' N3º 3.366' WGambitThumping into a 30 knot Westerly when all the forecasts say we should be in 5 knots! Not so pleasant. We’re pushing on and hoping this is a local effect as we’d like to get out through the Straits of Gibraltar by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.
