22º 22.296' N109º 47.514' WAikiWe are sailing on a beat south from San Jose Del Cabo to try and find a wind that will allow us to make some westing more toward our destination. The current wind models tell us this course of action will get us to the Marquesas quickest. As we go along we will monitor the weather via several sources that we have aboard, and keep altering our course to hopefully make the most efficient passage possible. almost 6 years  agoShow

23º 59.274' N109º 49.5' WAikiWe left La Paz and headed out yesterday. It seemed like a good day for it, good weather forecast, with a little wind and a nice sunny day. All went well until several hours later when the wind picked up to 25 with gusts above 30 knots and steep square seas, which happens in the Sea of Cortez when the wind picks up. We motored and motor sailed under reefed main and genoa, with several hours of nice sailing, until we decided to pull into Bahia Muertos and regroup, secure a few items that were moving in the interior more than we liked. Everyone was pretty tired, and we needed to figure out a way to keep the navigation station drawers closed, as they kept coming open when we were tossed around by those square steep seas. We anchored about 0030 (1230 Am) and all went to sleep. This morning we have secured the navigation station drawers, and tied the dive compressor down harder. We plan on moving further into the anchorage and spending the day tiding up and waiting out the strong northerly winds that are forecast for the next day. 35º 15.18' N121º 22.068' WAikiThe boat and crew are doing fine headed back to California at the moment. The self steering windvane installation suffered another failure and we have to fix it again before we can attempt a long passage. When Guy installed the wind vane steering he used a different kind of pad eye for securing the steering blocks then he normally does. These offered a shorter profile, unfortunately they were not up to the task two of the three have broken and the third one shows signs of breaking too. We will be arriving in Morro Bay between 2:00 and 3:00. Everyone is fine, although moral is a bit low as you might expect. More later as we resolve the windvane and some other issues that have cropped up since we have been out here. Guy, Melissa, And Brucealmost 7 years  agoShow
